Fat Quarter Shop 2022 Flea Market QAL – January Block

Fat Quarter Shop 2022 Flea Market Quilt Along January Block

And so it begins!

The Flea Market Quilt along has officially started. I have completed my first block and wanted to share a bit about my process.

Make sure to check out the Quilt and Stitch along kick-off page on the Fat Quarter Shop blog!

The Center Medallion

The start of the quilt along is to complete the center medallion, the Flea Market Star block.

This first block went by pretty quickly. It was a nice large finished size, and all the pieces used to assemble the block were pieces I could easily cut, using my Accuquilt fabric die cutter.

Cutting and Piecing

After reviewing all the cutting instructions for the block, I made multiple notes on my pattern instructions. The first thing that tends to immediately need conversion is half square triangles.

In some cases, all I need to do is look for the size of the finished square. In some cases I look at what size square is being used and then trimmed down to create the required design.

Here, rather than cutting squares that will be trimmed away, I cut half square triangles, creating less fabric waste and creating that 1/4″ seam allowance.

Conclusion

This first block was a great intro to the quilt along and I am very happy with my choice of Alison Glass fabrics and can’t wait to see how the quilt turns out!
