Fat Quarter Shop 2022 Flea Market QAL – Playing Quilt Along Catchup!

FQS Flea Market Quilt Along Catchup!

I was doing it wrong!

I started this quilt along with a bang! I had all my fabrics ready to go and all my fabric cutting dies selected. I completed January, February and March. And then…

I started into the large basket blocks, beginning with block one, in April. Somehow, I misread the plan and thought I would be completing one basket per month (forget that the math doesn’t make sense).

My April Basket (Block One)

May, June, Jul… oops!!

As each month progressed, I continued cutting out and then sewing together a single basket block. This continued on throughout illness, travel and of course full-time work.

Then, at the end of June, I realized that I was actually supposed to be sewing 3 baskets each month! Arghh!!!

I mean, the reality is that there is nothing I can do, but play catch-up, right?! But I was still feeling under the weather, and not quite sewing at my typical pace. And I decided rather than just make a bunch of replacement posts, I could just be honest and share what I’m sure is a common experience for many of us, participating in a quilt or stitch along. Sometimes we fall off track. The important thing is getting back in, on your own pace.

May and June (First Blocks)

These initial blocks were actually supposed to be the first of the set for each month.

The Catch-up Blocks

After realizing my error, I started first with the blocks for July, thinking I would at least hit the milestone for that month. I then went back and completed the remaining 2 blocks for each month, so that I had the total 12 baskets completed.

July
April
May
June

Now, with all my basket blocks completed, I can move on to the cutting for my next set of blocks, which includes hundreds of 1 1/4″ squares. This will be fast work, with my Accuquilt 1 1/4″ strip cutting die. I’ll also be using my 3″ square die.

Conclusion

I may be concluding the basket blocks, but I will be continuing on in this quilt along journey and hopefully I will be able to stay on track, since we are past the halfway point.

Make sure to join me, as you can gather from my story, it’s never too late!
