Fat Quarter Shop – Stronger Together Quilt Along

Stronger Together Quilt Along

A Quilt Along for Black History Month

Fat Quarter Shop’s quilt along for Black History Month 2021, is the Stronger Together quilt pattern.

The Fat Quarter Shop is an online resource for quilters.  I found them very early on in my quilting journey, as I am constantly online and searching for more resources to learn and also cool and useful gadgets for my process.

The Stronger Together project encompasses both a quilt along as well as a cross-stitch along opportunity for quilters.  From the FQS website, “The title “Stronger Together” acknowledges the many Black Americans that have influenced our community. It’s a mission statement to impact our future right now, starting with this fundraiser for United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and highlighting amazing Black quilters and stitchers.”

A Few Featured Artists

The Quilt Pattern

This year’s quilt along provided the opportunity to highlight a few artists from the past as well as today.  The biographies of several Black women who have been both inspiring and influential makers, are highlighted throughout the pattern instructions.

Although the pattern was not really my style, as a modern quilter, I loved the idea of trying my hand in working with this pattern.

The shapes were very traditional, half square triangles, flying geese, squares and set-in triangles.  Most of all, because I was working with the Fat Quarter Shop, I had the opportunity to work with fabric lines that had not yet been released.

Of course, I chose Alison Glass’s 2021 Sunprint Collection.  I say of course, because my love of Alison Glass fabrics was solidified with my 100 blocks sampler quilt.

I went to the FQS website to determine my own fabric selections for the pattern, and created a fabric key so that I could send my selections.  I then received the final  draft of the pattern.  I sent in my request and began anxiously waiting for the new pretty fabrics to arrive.

You can visit FQS’s YouTube channel to learn about the pattern, the meaning behind it, and the designer responsible for the pattern.

Conclusion

The quilt along begins in February and should be really fun, but also very informative.  I can’t wait to see what everyone creates with this very cool and easy to follow pattern.
