Stronger Together Quilt Along – Week 3
Fat Quarter Shop Stronger Together Quilt Along – Week 3
Squares!
This week’s section of our quilt is again, another short but sweet shape, both for cutting and sewing.
In this third week of our quilt along, we have privilege of getting to learn more about quilter, Rosie Lee Tompkins.
Rosie Lee Tompkins is the adopted pseudonym of Effie Mae Martin Howard, a widely acclaimed African-American quiltmaker and fiber artist of Richmond, California. The New York Times called her “one of the great American artists,” and her work “one of the century’s major artistic accomplishments.”
Make sure to check out the Fat Quarter Shop’s feature on this quilting and cross stitch project and remember that through February 28, 2021, 100% of the proceeds from the sales of Stronger Together Quilt Patterns and Stronger Together Cross Stitch Patterns will go to United Negro College Fund (UNCF).
Matching and Joining
Watch Those Intersections!
I was again able to follow the same techniques I used in my week one blog, for marking and matching the intersections of the squares.
I pressed the seams toward the darker fabrics in each row, making it easier to nest the seams when I joined all the rows together.
So far this quilt along has been really smooth and easy going. Just about what I needed right now!
As this quilt comes together, slowly creeping toward the end of Black History Month. We have one more week left in our quilt along, then it’s time to start quilting. I think I’ll be going with an all-over feather design!
