Stronger Together Quilt Along – Week 4
Fat Quarter Shop Stronger Together Quilt Along – Week 4
The Finish!
This week, we finish our quilt along as well as the finish to Black History Month 2021.
This week, we conflue our quilt along for the Stronger Together projects. This week, we have privilege of getting to learn more about quilter, Gwendolyn Ann Magee.
Magee’s work has been exhibited internationally and is found in the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Mississippi Museum of Art. She has earned many honors for her artistic work in the world of quilting.
Make sure to check out the Fat Quarter Shop’s feature on this quilting and cross stitch project and remember that through February 28, 2021, 100% of the proceeds from the sales of Stronger Together Quilt Patterns and Stronger Together Cross Stitch Patterns will go to United Negro College Fund (UNCF).
Corner Triangles and Binding
Binding Tips for Accuquilters
Cutting the setting triangles for each corner was pretty straightforward.
The next step in finishing was to cut the bias strips for the binding. After cutting the strips, I used this new technique for finishing the ends, before going through the process of joining the strips.
Basically, you use an Accuquilt half square triangle die to finish off the ends of the binding, removing the dog ears.
First, check out this video from Marjorie Busby on how to cut bias binding strips using your strip cutter.
After all your strips have been cut, follow this video to trim all your ends before joining all the binding strips. – Go to time mark 38:40, to follow along with Pam as she describes what you see me illustrating in my photos, using the die.
I typically use the 3″ HST die, since I don’t usually make binding larger than 3″.
Purchase this die and you will have perfect 3″ half square triangles and you will also use repeatedly to miter your binding ends before joining.

Now, as I prepare for quilting this piece, I must share that I have paused quilting as I upgrade my current long arm machine. My plan is that this will be my first quilting project on that new machine. I was so determined that I even enlisted the help of my 2 year old grand daughter to unpick what I started, so that I could knock this one out on my new machine. Check out our video clip. She calls me Lola and I love how she says, “I like it”, as she concentrates on picking out the stitches.
